These honey garlic chicken wings are so easy to make, yet they turn out golden and delicious with a sweet and savory honey garlic glaze. Here’s what you’ll need to make them:
- 800 grams chicken wings
- 2 tbsp. fish sauce
- 3 tbsp. calamansi juice
- 1 tbsp. ground black pepper
- 1 cup flour
- 2 eggs
- 3 tbsp. butter
- ½ cup honey
- 1 whole garlic minced
- 1 tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 tbsp. liquid seasoning
- 1 tbsp. brown sugar
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
Prepare the Chicken Wings: Cleaning and Seasoning
Once you have all the ingredients and materials you need, it’s time to prepare the chicken wings. Start by removing any visible fat from the chicken wings, then rinse them under cold water. After this, pat them dry using a paper towel or clean kitchen cloth.
Then, season your chicken wings fish sauce, calamansi juice and black pepper. You can also add other herbs and spices if desired. For example, garlic powder and paprika will give your wings a bit more oomph in terms of flavor and heat. Once seasoned, set the wings aside while you make the honey garlic sauce.
Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
Before the wings can be cooked, it’s time to make the honey garlic sauce. This is what will give them their sweet and savory flavor profile. To make the sauce, you’ll need:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 tbsp. liquid seasoning
- 1 whole garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp. brown sugar
- 3 tbsp. butter
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine all of the ingredients and bring to a simmer. Let the mixture heat for around 5 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved and until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature before using as a glaze for your chicken wings. Proceed to frying the chicken wings in medium heat until crispy and golden brown.
Yes, another best tip is to bake the chicken wings 400°F for 40 minutes. Then, crank up the heat to 450°F and bake for an additional 15 minutes so they get nice and crispy.
If you want maximum flavor, try topping the wings with some of these delicious extras: sesame seeds, chopped green onions, Parmesan cheese or crushed red peppers.
Honey garlic chicken wings are best served warm, so make sure to let them cool for a few minutes before digging in. If you’re not a fan of using your hands, use some toothpicks to pick up the wings – it’s much less messier! Serve them with a side of steamed rice or fresh vegetable sticks for a complete meal.
